Attendance Recovery estimator
What could Attendance Recovery look like for you?
Enter the students you’d serve and the days they’d recover. You’ll see projected student-days, ADA and the teaching time it takes. It’s a projection with your own numbers, not a forecast of funding.
Recovered days count when
- the instruction is standards-aligned and substantially equivalent to regular instruction;
- it’s in person, outside the regular school day or on weekends and intersession days;
- a certificated employee of your LEA immediately supervises;
- ratios stay within 10:1 (TK/K) or 20:1 (grades 1–12);
- participation is documented.
Good to know
- Timing. Recovery is credited to the fiscal year it happens in. Recovery completed later in the same fiscal year may support a revised report for the period of the original absence.
- Funding basis. Recovery may not increase funding when another ADA basis determines your entitlement, such as prior-year or three-year-average ADA, or basic aid. Check with your business office.
- ELO-P. ELO-P funds can pay for recovery sessions only under conditions: offered at the same time and site as ELO-P, and operated by the LEA. Recovered days count toward LCFF ADA, not ELO-P.
- Dashboard. Recovered days aren’t part of the 2026 Dashboard chronic absenteeism indicator.
- Hours per day. These are typical minimums for a standard day. Students with different minimum-day rules, such as some IEPs or continuation students, differ. A student can generate at most one day per calendar day of participation.
How it’s calculated
- Student-days = students × days each student recovers (up to 10).
- Student-hours = student-days × hours per day: 3 for TK/K, 4 for grades 1–12.
- Teacher-hours = student-hours ÷ ratio: 10 for TK/K, 20 for grades 1–12.
- ADA = student-days ÷ instructional days in the reporting period.
- Illustrative value = ADA × LCFF funding per ADA, for each grade span, then summed.
This is a projection, not a quote, a forecast of additional funding or guaranteed funding. Recovered days count only when sessions meet the requirements of Education Code 46211, including qualifying in-person instruction, immediate supervision by a certificated employee of your LEA, staffing ratios and minimum time, and only when your district reports them. Actual funding depends on your district’s funding basis, reporting period and audit outcome. Confirm figures with your business office.
